Read MoreCiara Darnise Miller, a west side native of Chicago, holds both an MFA and MA in Poetry and African American/African Diaspora Studies from Indiana University where she founded the city’s popular Bloomington Poetry Slam Series. She also received her BA in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College. Her writings offer a voice rooted in vulnerability and authenticity and pay homage to Chicago Black women writers such as Gwendolyn Brooks, Carolyn Rodgers, Angela Jackson, and Patricia Smith. She has published poems and academic essays in such collections and periodicals as Black Girl Magic, The Whiskey of Our Discontent, Break Beat Poets, Mosaic, Fjords Review, African American Review, Callaloo, Muzzle, Alice Walker: Critical Insights, Chorus, and many more. She serves as an Afro-American Studies professor at Kennedy King College and the CEO of Miller’s Learning Center (MLC), a test prep, editing, and career-support company. She is also currently co-editing a University of Pennsylvania anthology which includes essays written by Caribbean women scholars.
