Sarah Tremlett


Sarah Tremlett is a prize-winning poetry film-maker, poet and theorist and co-director and editor of Liberated Words online A curator and judge at festivals, she has given numerous talks on the subject and shown her work worldwide. Her new publication The Poetics of Poetry Film (Intellect Books UK, and The University of Chicago Press USA), has been described as ‘‘A ground-breaking, encyclopedic work, an industry Bible, and essential reading on the genre’ Her poetry film Selfie with Marilyn won Maldito Festival de Videopoesia, Albacete, in 2021. Projects include: a family history research, poetry film and prose project Tree, and curating family history poetry films; and an ekphrastic poetry film initiative and prize Frame to Frames: Your Eyes Follow curating ekphrastic poetry films. Her videopoem some everybodies (2009) is in Poets with a Video Camera: Videopoetry 1980–2020, September 22-January 23, Vancouver, curated by Tom Konyves; and she is the keynote speaker at the related symposium in November. Recent presentations include: Arts in Society, ‘New Narrative Frameworks’, Zaragoza, Spain, July 2022; DCAC (Digital Culture and Audiovisual Challenges conference) May, 2022, ‘An enquiry into defining a poetic genre’; Lyra Poetry Festival, Bristol, 3 April, 2022, presenting the first Frame to Frames: Ekphrastic Poetry Film Prize screening; Brave New Literature, Versopolis Review, Jan–March, 2022; Fotogenia Festival, 24–27 November, Mexico City: juror, invited speaker on The Poetics of Poetry Film, exhibitor. VideoBardo, 25 Years, Buenos Aires, 29/11/21– 3/12/21: interview with director Javier Robledo on The Poetics of Poetry Film. Other recent publications: Earth Lines, co-editor and contributor – poem ‘Firewash’ on a mediaeval mining ancestor, and a poetry film of the poem recently shown at ZEBRA poetry film festival, Berlin, 26/11/21.
