Artist’s Statement:

When I think of where I come from, I think of music. My mother and aunt spent hours staring daggers into these pages taken from practice and song books I found in the creaky, old piano bench in our living room. I spent years of my childhood with my eyes glued to these notes, memorizing passages and practicing phrases until my head was heavy with song. Although I don’t speak my grandparents’ native language, I can hear the music that was played in their home, by my mother and aunt as a child, by my grandfather, now under my own hands, and I feel closer to them for it.
