ARTIST’S STATEMENT: I started this piece by typing the beginnings of questions into Google. For example, ‘Is there…’, ‘Was there…’, Will there be…’ The random juxtapositions thrown up in the results were great, evoking darkness, humour, poignancy and much more. I used them to build the poem, then made a series of animated stills and the layered voice recording. I wanted to reflect the modern day babel of the Internet, the tsunami of words that bursts out every time we open the floodgates of Google. And at the same time the humanness that runs through the hunger for answers; how we simultaneously drive the tsunami and are helplessly swept along by it.
