Artist’s statement: The Reason for Sleep started as a few lines I wrote several years ago after having had a dream where a door opened in the wall of my bedroom. An alternate house existed the other side of that wall, and in the dream I explored the house, opening doors and looking out of windows. When I woke, I wrote a few sentences about it in my journal. Last spring, I decided to use those sentences as the basis for a video poem. As I filmed the shots, the poem took shape to fit the images, instead of the other way around.
