Wakefulness

by | May 17, 2017 | Poetry

I rise tonight to kiss your chest that tastes
of stain. Knowing I have nowhere to be

again, I cherish the days of our last mourning—
fires on the ground against dawn’s sash.

I grant this past to you: sleep, the desk’s
grain, a walk into the fogged tree line.

Against our bed sheets I shift, lie—content
to never be content as you, love, are.
