At night Sofia likes to keep the sliding-doors
open so she can hear the frogs. The house,
one story, shares a landscape of trees and
fields and it’s a rainy season if the pond has
water in July. Tonight, as Sofia undresses,
the frogs are louder and louder. By the time
she’s naked their croaking has brought her to
the screen door, but when she open the curtains,
silence. They start up again once I’m asleep.
